Educated at Balliol College, Oxford (Philosophy & Psychology), Essex University and University College London (MSc in Economics), Neil Record started his career as an economist at the Bank of England, followed by a five-year stint in industry.
In 1983, aged 30, Neil founded Record Plc, a specialist asset management firm now listed on the LSE, retiring in 2023 after 40 years as Chairman.
He was Chairman of the Institute of Economic Affairs from 2015-2023, and is now Life Vice-President.
He authored Currency Overlay (John Wiley & Sons, 2003), and has written extensively on UK Public Sector Pensions, starting with Sir Humphrey’s Legacy (IEA, 2006). He was a finalist in the 2012 Wolfson Economics Essay Prize; Visiting Fellow at Nuffield College Oxford from 2008-2016, and Chairman of the Nuffield College Remuneration Committee from 2018-22.
He is currently Chairman of Net Zero Watch, a Trustee of the Pharos Foundation, and Trustee of the Record Scholarship Trust.
