On Tuesday, 14th October, the Prosperity Institute’s UK-US Special Relationship Unit had the pleasure of hosting the Ronald Reagan Foundation & Institute Board and former President Ronald Reagan speechwriter and Pulitzer award-winning columnist for The Wall Street Journal, Peggy Noonan, to speak on the importance of Margaret Thatcher’s legacy on her centenary birthday, and Thatcher’s special relationship with Ronald Reagan.
It was a nostalgic evening, hearing unique insight and untold stories from someone who had a front row seat on the historic connection between two world leaders and nations, who seemed providentially tied together.
The hour long conversation ended with a lively Q&A session, and was bookended by a social reception with drinks and canapés. An oversubscribed event, Ms Noonan impressed us all with her lyrical speaking-style and the way she can capture an era and place with words. We were also reminded that the “Special Relationship” did not just relate to Reagan and Thatcher but also so several other notable prime ministers and presidents too.
