On Thursday 26th June, Prosperity Institute hosted the Shadow Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Andrew Griffith MP, to speak on how only free enterprise can restore the British economy and revive British prosperity. The event was introduced by Managing Director Dr Radomir Tylecote, and Mr Griffith was interviewed on stage by Fred de Fossard, Director of Strategy. In his speech, Mr Griffith announced that the Conservatives would repeal the Government’s proposed Employment Rights Bill and reverse recent policies which have driven entrepreneurs and wealth creators away from Britain.

Mr Griffith spoke about his vision to restore the British economy not just to its former glory – whether it was forging the Industrial Revolution or the explosion of prosperity with the 1980s’ Big Bang – but to “put a Union Jack-shaped dent in the universe”, and seek a bright and optimistic future for the country. He criticised the country’s recent economic decline, losing its competitive edge in the world, and stagnating living standards since the financial crisis; he also criticised his own party for its mistakes in office, particularly for harming prosperity by increasing costly regulation and immigration, despite promising to the public to do the opposite.

This event forms part of Prosperity Institute’s long-term work to revive British Prosperity and collaborate with the people who are trying to do so. The fundamental building blocks of prosperity are national independence and strong borders, low taxation and a lightly-regulated economy, the rule of law applied fairly to all, and a state which provides individuals with the liberty to flourish and innovate through enterprise and human endeavour.

This event was covered in The TelegraphThe Daily Mail, and Guido Fawkes.
