On 16th June, the Prosperity Institute welcomed Lord Elliott of Mickle Fell to discuss his latest book, Ten Years On: The Untold Story of Brexit – Reflections on a Life of Campaigning. Speaking to a packed auditorium, Lord Elliott recounted untold stories from the 2016 referendum campaign, spoke about the moments of jeopardy before the country voted to leave, and reflected on where Britain and the EU stand today.
We were joined by former Cabinet Minister Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg and trade policy consultant Allie Renison, who offered their reflections on Lord Elliott’s talk, and provided their own insight into how Brexit unfolded and where Britain goes next. The event was introduced and chaired by Fred de Fossard, Prosperity Institute’s director of strategy. Throughout proceedings, the panel discussed Britain’s post-Brexit journey, including what policies were successful – such as financial services reforms, AI policies and new agricultural innovations, securing new trade agreements – and which have been unsuccessful, such as the wider deregulatory agenda for businesses, energy policy, and immigration. Members of the audience raised the important question of Northern Ireland’s position after Brexit.
This event follows Prosperity Institute publishing multiple papers on the trade relationship between the UK and the EU, as well as Substack posts on the implications of agreeing dynamic alignment with EU regulations.
