Does Legatum control the Prosperity Institute?

The Prosperity Institute is an independent entity, incorporated as a private Company Limited by Guarantee (CLG), governed by its own Board of Directors. The Institute is operationally independent. The Prosperity Institute was previously known as the Legatum Institute from 2007 to 2024 and was organised as a charity.

What is a Company Limited by Guarantee (CLG)?

A Company Limited by Guarantee is a business structure often used by non-profit organisations. Unlike a limited company a CLG does not issue shares, and any profits are typically reinvested in the organisation. The company is legally separate from its members.

Who else funds the Prosperity Institute?

Legatum currently provides the Institute with its core funding requirements but the CLG allows the Institute to accept additional funding for its programmes.

Will Prosperity Institute take funding from governments?

Will Prosperity Institute make public its sources of funding?

While Legatum chooses to make public its funding of the Institute, other funders may decide whether to make their contributions public. It is common for funders of think tanks to do so anonymously.

Is the Prosperity Institute a politically aligned organisation?

The institute has no political alignment or affiliation. Its goal is to identify the solutions that provide the best outcomes for the prosperity of people and society. Effective solutions are not party-political, and nor is the Prosperity Institute.
