Alexander Gray

Director of Sovereignty

Alexander Gray oversees the Prosperity Institute’s policy implementation work. He joined in 2023 as a senior researcher and became director of Sovereignty in 2024. The Sovereignty Unit’s main focus is the threat to national sovereignty posed by multilateral institutions taking power away from the elected governments of democratic nation-states. Alexander has a keen interest in defence policy and made the case for Canadian membership of AUKUS Pillar 2 in a major report endorsed by four former Prime Ministers.

He is also an editor of History Reclaimed, an online publication which aims to counter the abuse of history for political purposes. He wrote the report “Can we trust the BBC with our history?” which assesses the accuracy and balance of the treatment of complex historical subjects in a series of flagship BBC programmes. The report received widespread coverage in the press, including on the front page of The Telegraph, and ultimately led the BBC to review its history output.

Alexander previously worked in Parliament, predominantly on issues related to China and national security, and spent four years at the think tank Policy Exchange working on security and extremism policy, defence policy, and the History Matters project.

He is an Army reservist in the Honourable Artillery Company and speaks native French.
